Listening to "Persecution of Christian Filth", I was really impressed by the good work made by the singer Adrastos, whose voice is really hateful and always reaches high levels of screaming. This is really a point in favor of the music played by the band, that's obviously well made and arranged. So, I contacted Adrastos, the leader of the band, and I asked him some questions about different topics: the final result, I think, is really interesting...

Ok Adrastos, first of all, thanks for taking time to answer my questions. Why don't you introduce us to Seeds of Hate? When did the band was formed and what did you realise whit this project?

Seeds of Hate was formed in the beginning of 1997. We had a lot of line up changes. There were 3 different drummers and 5/6 different guitarists!! We recorded 3 demos and a live tape from our first gig in Franconia. This tape was released by Chanteloup Creations. We played some gigs and, in this year, Drakkar released our debut Cd, and Sombre Records released the Lp version of it.

I found in "Persecution of christian Filth" a very good album of Black Metal with a touch of "melody" (I pay always so much attention using this word, 'cause I think it should be so easily misunderstood…); I mean, you can hear something more than simply two or three guitar riffs one before the other, and the listener can find a precise mood for each one of the 8 tracks of the album. Even if I like so much minimal BM in it's simplest form, I think it's a good result for a disc, that doesn't leave out all the main points of Black Metal music as it's mean to be…

That's true, sometimes it's not very simple Black Metal, but I think it's still raw. The old Seeds of Hate songs were more primitive, but it's still typical BM music.

Four of the eight tracks have German titles. And I can't understand their meaning (I don't know German language, unluckily…), just make some suppositions: can you tell us what are the main topics of the songs of "Persecution of christian Filth", and give a short explanation of each one's lyrics?

All my lyrics are about hate, darkness, Satanism, (anti-) humanity / christianity and things which happened in my life, or just dark visions. These are the topics of all my lyrics. It's not necessary to explain the meaning of every song.

The title of the album, and the artwork, show us that you have a strong antichristian attitude, a thing I think it's one of the most important topics on BM music. How do you face your "unholy" ideological battle against this scum? It's the music your way to express all your disgust against the oppression that lasts since two thousand years, or is it just a par of something more?

I'm not interested to go in a jail for church-burning or something else. The music and, maybe, my clothes / outfit are enough… for now…

As you surely understand, you can't give shit on something without having your personal idea about it: I mean, none can fight or simply criticise christianity without giving an alternative to it; it'd be just a stupid and childish behaviour. In what does your personal views consist of?

Well, I'm not interested to tell people what they have to believe. I hate christianity and the christian worms. Christianity is absolutely ridiculous. I'm my own god and I believe in evilness and hate. I do what I want and that's my alternative.

In the back of the booklet, under the title, I can clearly see a Satanic symbol: what's your point of view about Satanism? Do you consider it in the way of a philosophic meaning, or it's most like a religion for you? Tell us, if you want…

It's not a religion. I live and practise Satanism in the way of a philosophical meaning. It's in my heart, in my spirit and in my soul. I think it's stupid to slaughter a cat or a chicken for Satan… It's also stupid to destroy cemeteries. That's childish.

Extreme music such as Black Metal has always a strong bond with extreme ideologies: one of the most popular nowadays, is the marriage between NS political ideology and BM. Now, seeing the country you come from, and the music you play, everyone I think would ask you what's your relation with this kind of political ideologies, and what do you think about their use into BM music. I call upon you to speak.

Black Metal should have nothing to do with politics. Yes, Black Metal is extreme, but green hair and 20 piercings in the face are also extreme, but, who has it…? Black Metal is the music of Satan, a fist in the face of god and christianity. Through the years Black Metal survived without NSBM and now it's the best, because of its extremity? Politic has nothing to do with true BM, but there are some really good NSBM bands.

In the statement written at the end of the booklet, you talk about the nowadays German BM "scene", and its slowly degradation: as you surely know, it's not just a German phenomenon, but something that affects the world-wide "scene". Stupid gossip between bands giving shit one to the other, claiming to be the purest and the truest, and other foolish debates have lowered all the BM movement into a ridiculous level, more than what the commercialisation of this Art has done in the past years. Personally, when I read this kind of "paper battles", I feel really sad, more than reading dimmu borgir's statements about Black Metal… your opinion?

Of course, you're absolutely right. It's really sad. You have seen what BM can reach, when you look to the early days in Norway. Churches were burnt down, and I thought that the bands were much more united than in Germany or elsewhere. Nowadays you can't see or read that there's somebody fighting against christianity. The BM bands are fighting each other and not against christianity, and that's not the philosophy of Black Metal. It's a war against christianity and worshipping the dark arts, not this.

I know that you guitarist, Dawn of Armageddon, is Akhenaten of Judas Iscariot. How did you get in touch with this well known individual in the BM underground? What has been his contribute to the realisation of "Persecution of christian Filth" and, last but not least, what's your opinion about the great music he plays with his main band JI?

Well, he's a great friend and musician, but Seeds of Hate and Judas Iscariot are two different bands. We are not an Akhenaten side project. Akhenaten played in Seeds of Hate when most of the people haven't heard about JI yet. Especially here, in Germany. So he/we gave him another pseudonym, because SoH and JI are two different bands. We are sick of these people who are only interested in SoH, because they've heard that Akhenaten is a member. In the future, I will not answer questions about Akhenaten. If you want to know something about Akhenaten, ask him, not me. He wrote the most of the songs for our Cd, and he managed the studio. The rest was done by myself and the rest of the members.

And about the other members, besides you? Tell us something…

I don't know what I should tell you about them… Our bass player plays in a thrash band, and our new guitarists played in some bands for sessions, but now he's a full member of SoH. Our drummer and me are working on a project, which goes back to the old primitive SoH style. We will record a demo on a 4 track recorder in the end of this year, and I think it will sound a bit like the old stuff of Dark Throne, but we will see and hear…

Ok, let's talk about your screams: I have appreciated your vocals into Seeds of Hate, and I'd like to know what are your musical and lyrical influences, besides that to know what's the music you listen to, on you free times.

I'm listening to all kinds of metal and other music, but I really have no musical influences when I'm screaming. It's all the hate in me that is coming out when I sing and when I write my lyrics.

Well, we are reaching the end. Can you tell us what are the future projects of SoH? Are you going to record some new material, play live gigs, haunt christians in the forest or what? The answer is yours.

At first, we will sign a deal at Drakkar, and then we will record a mini album and then our 2nd, 3rd and 4th full length album during the next years. There's also a gig planned in Graz / Austria in December 2002, and that's all for now, so watch out.

Well, thank you so much for the interview. My best wishes for Seeds of Hate, and keep spreading hate on judeo-christian ignorance. To you the last words…

Thank you for the interview and for your support. Hails to all our true brothers, and a special hail to Urgehal and Lugubre. See you in hell !!

I think we will all meet there one day… Hail Adrastos !!
